Better: Turn A Street Corridor Into A Park

Video Tuesday

The term bike boulevards only says part of the story; Portland is now calling them neighborhood greenways, and the above StreetFilms video highlights their benefits superbly.

They are a more complete approach to complete streets. They include traffic calming measures, bicycle priority areas, innovative wayfinding (including sharrow flowers), beach bike trains and multi-use rain gardens that do more than just filter storm-water.

Certainly, there is something in the “greenway” concept that we can adopt here in northern Michigan. What’s you’re favorite aspect of the bike boulevard/neighborhood greenway?

Thanks, StreetFilms!

So how do we make it mandatory for everyone in City Government in Traverse City to watch this film? Hey Bz, how ’bout a resolution! What a great investment of seven minutes!
